Sanding New Cabinets for Opaque Finishes
1. Flat Sanding (Before Priming)

- Rails & Stiles: Use a medium-grit 10mm pad to level the surface without removing excessive material.
- Profiles & Edges: Sand with a 180-grit foam pad to maintain detail while smoothing the surface.
2. First Primer Sanding (After Initial Primer Coat)
- Flat Surfaces (Center Panels, Rails, and Stiles): Sand with a very fine 10mm pad to eliminate primer texture and prepare for the next coat.
- Profiles: Use a 320-grit foam pad to lightly smooth without rounding over the detail.
3. Sanding Between Additional Coats
- Flat Panels, Rails, and Stiles: Sand with a super fine 3×4 PROFOAM pad for smoothness and adhesion.
- Profiles: Lightly scuff with a Scotch-Brite™ pad to maintain edge definition while prepping the surface.
Sanding MDF Doors
Important Note: Do not sand the factory-flat areas of MDF, as they are already properly sealed and leveled.
Machined Areas: If machine marks are visible, begin with 180-grit sandpaper, then refine with 320-grit. If the surface is clean, start directly with 320-grit sanding.
